Sharjah 24 – AFP: President Donald Trump has warned that the most intense phase of the US campaign against Iran is still ahead, signalling further escalation despite days of sustained aerial strikes.

The president outlined key goals: dismantling Iran’s missile capabilities, destroying its naval forces, preventing it from acquiring nuclear weapons and curbing its support for armed groups abroad.

Rising toll

US and Israeli forces have struck hundreds of targets, while Iran has retaliated with missile attacks on Israel, American bases and sites in several Gulf states. The Pentagon has confirmed US casualties and aircraft losses.

No timeline

Although earlier estimates suggested a month-long operation, Trump and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the campaign could extend further, insisting it would not resemble the prolonged wars in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Air superiority

America’s top military officer, General Dan Caine, said US forces have secured local air superiority over Iran, enabling continued strikes as the situation remains fluid.
