The European Union called on Iran to immediately stop indiscriminate strikes and refrain from any further actions that could escalate or widen the conflict.
Following an emergency meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels to assess the rapidly evolving situation and its impact on regional security, energy supplies, and international navigation, the EU signalled the possibility of imposing additional sanctions on Iran.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said the bloc is closely monitoring developments in Iran and the Middle East with serious concern. She reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to regional stability, international law, and protecting its security interests, noting that extensive sanctions have already been imposed in response to Iran’s actions.
The EU urged maximum restraint, the protection of civilians, and full respect for international law, including the United Nations Charter and international humanitarian law. It warned that prolonged conflict would have severe consequences for the Middle East.
The EU expressed solidarity with regional partners affected by attacks and reaffirmed its commitment to regional stability and civilian protection. It also stressed the importance of Iran’s full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and compliance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement, highlighting nuclear safety, maritime security, and freedom of navigation as critical priorities.
