China sets 2026 growth target at 4.5–5%

Sharjah24 - WAM: China has announced its economic growth target for 2026 at 4.5 to 5 percent, with authorities aiming to achieve even better outcomes in practice, according to a government work report submitted to the country’s top legislature on Thursday.

The report sets a target for the urban unemployment rate at around 5.5 percent and aims to create over 12 million new urban jobs. Authorities also plan to keep the consumer price index increase at about 2 percent, while ensuring personal income growth aligns with economic expansion.

Trade, agriculture, and emissions

Other key targets include maintaining a basic balance of payments, achieving grain output of around 700 million tonnes, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP by about 3.8 percent, reflecting China’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
