Economic warfare and maritime risks
Al Hashimy described attacks on commercial vessels in the Arabian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz as economic warfare and piracy, stressing that they violate state sovereignty and endanger critical trade routes, with serious economic, humanitarian and environmental consequences.
Threat to global trade and energy markets
She emphasised that any attempt to block or disrupt navigation is unacceptable and poses a direct threat to international maritime freedom, global energy supplies and economic stability. She warned that reduced vessel traffic is already impacting energy markets, shipping and global supply chains.
Global food security at risk
Al Hashimy underlined the strategic importance of the Strait, noting that Gulf countries supply a significant share of global gas, oil and petrochemicals, as well as fertilisers. Any disruption, she said, could directly threaten global food security and affect both developing and advanced economies.
Support for international action
She reaffirmed the UAE’s support for international efforts to protect freedom of navigation and welcomed Bahrain’s draft UN resolution to enhance maritime security, while calling on Iran to cease its attacks and comply with international law.
