Location and context
The attack occurred in Bannu, a district in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders the country’s formerly self-governed tribal areas.
Target and casualties
Muhammad Sajjad Khan, a local police official, said the bomber apparently intended to target a police station but struck a civilian home in haste. Three women and two children were killed, and four others were injured. Bannu assistant commissioner Ikramullah Khan confirmed the death toll.
Responsibility and regional security concerns
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has intensified attacks since the Taliban returned to power in Kabul in 2021, often targets security forces in the region.
Islamabad’s accusations
Pakistan has accused neighboring Afghanistan of sheltering militants planning attacks on its soil, a charge denied by the Taliban government.
