Sharjah24 - Reuters: Chief executives of major low-cost airlines are set to meet US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy on Tuesday, as they push for temporary tax relief to offset the sharp rise in jet fuel costs driven by the war with Iran.

Call for congressional action

A group representing Spirit Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Allegiant Air, Sun Country and Avelo last week sent a letter to congressional leaders urging lawmakers to pass legislation suspending the 7.5% federal excise tax on airline tickets, along with a $5.30 tax on each flight.

Industry pressures mount

The request comes as budget carriers face increasing financial strain from higher fuel prices, prompting calls for immediate measures to ease operating costs and support the sector.
