Aswan Women’s Film Festival opens 10th edition in Egypt

Tribute to pioneering filmmaker

This year’s edition is dedicated to Egyptian pioneer Aziza Amir (1901–1952), marking 125 years since her birth. She is recognised as one of the early figures in Egyptian cinema as an actress, producer and director.

Awards and honours

At the opening ceremony, Egyptian actress Leila Elwi received the Isis Award for achievement. Syrian actress Sulaf Fawakherji and Polish director and screenwriter Dorota Kobiela-Filman were also honoured for their contributions to cinema.
