Sharjah 24 – WAM: A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Japan’s Hokkaido on Monday morning. The country’s meteorological agency confirmed that no tsunami warning was issued and said the tremor was not linked to any ongoing advisory about the risk of a major quake in the region.

Details of the tremor

The quake occurred at 5:23 am and measured upper 5 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale of 7 in the Tokachi region on the northern main island. It struck at a depth of around 83 kilometres, according to Kyodo News, citing the Japan Meteorological Agency.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. The earthquake’s magnitude was initially estimated at 6.1 before being revised to 6.2.
