Iran mall fire kills 8 and injures 36 amid tensions

Sharjah24 - Reuters: Iranian media reported on Tuesday that at least 8 people were killed and 36 others injured following a fire that broke out in a commercial centre west of the capital, Tehran.

Rapid spread of flames

The Iranian judiciary-linked Mizan News Agency quoted local fire officials as saying that the building’s exterior layer was highly flammable, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

Images show thick smoke

Iranian media, including Mizan, published footage showing a dense column of smoke rising from the scene of the incident. The location of the fire was verified through surrounding buildings, roads, trees, and satellite imagery matching archived visuals of the area.

Incident amid regional tensions

The fire comes amid rising pressure on a fragile ceasefire between Iran and the United States, following an exchange of fire between the two sides on Monday.
