Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Arabic Language Academy has published the twenty-first issue of its monthly journal. This edition features a variety of studies and articles that discuss topics related to the Arabic language. It also explores its cognitive, cultural, and historical aspects.

Included in this issue is a review of the encyclopedia "Sultan Al Tawarikh" by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The review characterizes the encyclopedia as a documentary work that outlines the history of Oman. It does this by analyzing settlement patterns and social and political changes. The encyclopedia uses a careful method to trace events and link them to their contexts. It relies on documents and evidence, which gives it considerable scholarly value and establishes it as an important reference in its field.

The editorial, written by Dr Mohammed Safi Al-Mustaghani, Secretary-General of the Academy, is titled “How do I achieve linguistic richness and satisfy meaning?” It offers an intellectual perspective that begins with the position of the Arabic language in today’s world. The editorial answers questions about the language’s role in knowledge and culture. It presents a clear vision of how Arabic can keep up with changes. It emphasizes that mastering Qur'anic expression improves linguistic skills and enhances a learner's ability to express themselves.

Indonesia: Past and present

The twenty-first issue's special feature included a study titled "The Arabic Language in Indonesia: Linguistic Presence, Cultural Impact, and Contemporary Challenges." This study looked at one of the key experiences of Arabic spreading beyond its usual geographical boundaries. It explored how Arabic arrived in the Indonesian archipelago through trade and education, leading to a significant influence on Indonesian language and culture.

The role of language in shaping consciousness

In its twenty-first issue, the journal featured a study in the "Linguistics" section titled "Sentence Structures in Functional Grammar." This study looked at how sentences convey meaning. Another study, "The Influence of Arabic on World Languages," examined how Arabic vocabulary has influenced other languages over time. The "Linguistic Engineering" section presented an analysis of how language affects thought formation. It also included a study on "Methods of Developing Vocabulary in Light of Modern Linguistics," which discussed ways to improve learners' vocabulary.

In the "Lexicography" section, a study on "Mechanisms for Interpreting Digital Data" presented a framework for using computer tools to track changes in meaning within the historical lexicon. An article offered a deep exploration of this root, its variations, and its meanings. The article "Landmarks of Al-Khalil's Methodology in Compiling the Al Ayn Dictionary" examined the scientific foundations behind the first Arabic dictionary.

The article "Descriptions of Floods in Arabic" highlighted the richness of the Arabic language in describing natural events. The study "The Boundaries Between Science, Knowledge, and Scientific Research" provided a basis for understanding these concepts. The study "Rhetorical Devices in Spring" looked at the literary value of the spring season and its descriptive beauty. The issue also featured a work that won the Sharjah Award for Linguistic and Lexicographical Studies, titled "Abu al-Ala's Dictionary of Chapters and Objectives." This included a presentation of the book "Al-Wasit fi Tarajim Udaba’ Shinqit."

Arab personalities and linguistic anecdotes

This issue looked at the lives of several figures who helped the Arabic language and its sciences. It focused on Anwar Abu Suwailim as an example of an intellectual who combined teaching with academic work. It also featured Shawqi Daif, a key figure in literary and critical studies today. The section included a profile of researcher Hatem Saleh Al-Dhamin and a presentation on the life of Ibn Al-Aslami Al-Andalusi.

In the "Literature and Criticism" section, the issue examined the role of the "mother" in Arabic poetry. It also provided an analysis of the connections between the works of Al-Hariri and Tayeb Salih, emphasizing the ongoing dialogue in Arabic narrative and the links between traditional and contemporary styles.
