Sharjah24: The Arabic Language Protection Society (ALPA) held a ceremony yesterday evening to honour the winners of the Ramadan “Qaf” competition at its headquarters. The event was attended by the association’s administrative and financial director, Mohammed Shuaib, along with a number of participants, parents, and language enthusiasts.

Competition launch and objectives

The association launched the competition through its social media platforms during the holy month of Ramadan. It featured daily interactive questions for the public, aimed at enhancing general cultural awareness and reviving the spirit of Ramadan through engagement and knowledge. The competition ran from 1 Ramadan 1447 AH, corresponding to 18 February 2026.

Participation and engagement

The competition saw wide public participation, with daily engagement ranging between 240 and 320 participants, averaging around 280 per day. The total estimated participation reached approximately 8,400 entries over the course of the month. At the conclusion of the competition, 15 winners were recognised for their outstanding performance and consistent engagement.

Ceremony highlights and awards

The ceremony was marked by a celebratory atmosphere, during which the winners were presented with certificates and cash prizes in recognition of their achievement and active participation in the Ramadan “Qaf” competition. The initiative was widely praised for its role in strengthening the presence of the Arabic language in society.

Leadership remarks

His Excellency Dr Saeed Al-Tunaiji, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ALPA, praised the participants for their commitment to learning and preserving Arabic. He emphasised that interest in the language reflects awareness of national and cultural identity and demonstrates the connection of younger generations to their mother tongue and authentic values.

 

He also expressed gratitude to parents and educators for their efforts in fostering a love of the Arabic language among children, stressing the importance of preserving Arabic as a language of identity, culture, and belonging, and supporting initiatives and competitions that strengthen its presence among younger generations
