Barcelona reach agreement with Newcastle for Gordon signing

Sharjah 24: Barcelona, reigning Spanish football champions, have announced that they have reached an agreement with Newcastle United for the signing of England international Anthony Gordon, confirming reports previously published in the Spanish press.

The 25-year-old winger is expected to become Barcelona’s first signing of the summer transfer window, as the Catalan giants look to strengthen their attacking line ahead of the departure of veteran Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, 37.

Barcelona free to spend again after financial restrictions

According to an internal source, the Catalan club — now free to complete new signings without financial restrictions — saw their offer of €70 million plus €10 million in add-ons accepted by the English side.

The Spanish champions confirmed that the official announcement of the England international’s contract — reportedly a five-year deal — is expected before the end of this week.

Gordon arrival may not end Barcelona’s attacking rebuild

The England winger, who has earned 17 international caps and scored two goals for his country, is preparing to feature in his first World Cup this summer.
