Sharjah 24 – KUNA: Fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) intensified Thursday in the capital Khartoum and extended to the city of El Obeid and other areas.
Eyewitnesses Said that today's fighting near the Presidential Palace and the Army's General Command in Khartoum were the most violent since the fighting erupted on April 15. Heavy and medium weapons were used in the clashes and the army aircraft carried out several strikes on RSF targets north of Khartoum's cities of Bahri and Omdurman, they said.

In a press statement, the Sudanese army accused the RSF of violating the truce and attempting to attack its sites. "Our forces have confronted and defeated RSF rebels who tried to attack the Command of the Bahri Military Region early this morning," the army said, adding that the RSF forces had suffered heavy losses.

It went on to say that the RSF tried to control the premises of the capital central military region. "Our forces successfully repelled the attack," the army affirmed.

It added that the city of El Obeid and the leadership of the Fifth Infantry Division (Al-Hajana) were also attacked by the RSF today. "The enemy was crushed and suffered heavy losses, which are being counted after chasing the enemy out of the city," it unveiled.

On the other hand, the RSF condemned what it called the irresponsible actions of the army and "the remnants of the deposed regime" of violating the declared humanitarian truce and attacking RSF forces in a number of sites.

It stated that the RSF sites and residential neighborhoods in Khartoum are subjected to indiscriminate bombardment with artillery and aircraft.

Sudan's Health Ministry says more than 500 people have been killed and nearly 5,000 wounded since the outbreak of the fighting.

The UN migration agency (IOM) said this week that at least 334,000 people have been internally displaced by the fighting, in addition to the 100,000 who have fled the country.
