UAE welcomes US Secretary of State’s statements on Sudan

Sharjah 24 – WAM: His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcomed statements by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding Sudan. Rubio emphasised that the immediate goal is a cessation of hostilities at the start of the new year to allow humanitarian organisations to deliver aid across the country.

Emphasis on humanitarian efforts

Sheikh Abdullah commended Secretary Rubio’s focus on humanitarian de-escalation and the need to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people. He stressed that achieving an immediate ceasefire and ensuring the safe delivery of humanitarian aid are top priorities.

Path toward political transition

The UAE official highlighted that ending hostilities is essential to pave the way for a political path toward an independent civilian transition, aiming to fulfill the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security, stability, and peace.

UAE commitment to international efforts

Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to working within the US-led Quad, emphasising that an immediate ceasefire would strengthen efforts to achieve a sustainable civilian political solution that prioritizes the interests of the people of Sudan.
