After a goalless first half, Bologna took the lead early in the second half when Dutch forward Thijs Dallinga scored from a cross by substitute Nicolo Cambiaghi in the 50th minute. Napoli’s problems worsened as Colombian defender John Lucumí netted his first Serie A goal in his 103rd appearance — a powerful header from a set piece, assisted by Swedish defender Emil Holm, in the 66th minute. Despite Napoli’s efforts to reply, including a shot from substitute Noa Lang that hit the post in the 76th minute, the visitors failed to score.
With this defeat, Napoli stayed on 22 points, ceding the top position to AC Milan, who drew 2–2 with Parma earlier in the round.
The victory marked Bologna’s sixth win of the season, moving them to fifth place with 21 points, just behind Inter Milan on goal difference.
