SAA: Faya site tells story of early human settlement

Sharjah 24: Dr Ossama Khalil, World Heritage Sites expert at the Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA), revealed that the “Faya” site, recently inscribed on the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), is unique in documenting stages of early human settlement in the region, from the Middle Stone Age, 210,000 years ago, to the Neolithic period, 10,000 years ago.

Significant archaeological evidence

Dr Ossama Khalil, World Heritage Sites expert at the Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA), stated that the Faya site, now on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, holds great significance in documenting stages of early human settlement, with archaeological evidence dating back 210,000 years.

Legal protection and supervision

Dr Khalil explained in statements to “Sharjah 24” that the site enjoys legal protection under Law No. 4 of 2020, aimed at preserving heritage and ensuring its sustainability for future generations. The site is supervised by the SAA.
