Sharjah 24: Precision will be under the spotlight on Friday when shooting events begin at the eighth edition of the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST 2026), organised by Sharjah Women’s Sports and running in Sharjah until 12 February.

The competitions will be held at Al Dhaid Cultural and Sports Club, with 46 athletes representing five teams from five Arab countries competing in the 10-metre air pistol.

Events are being conducted in accordance with regulations approved by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), the sport’s international governing body, ensuring equal conditions for all athletes and the highest standards of fairness and safety. All equipment has undergone a thorough inspection prior to the start of the competition, and strict adherence to approved organisational and timing procedures has been ensured.

Bahraini international referee Adel Assad, chairman of the tournament’s referees committee, confirmed that officiating preparations have been fully completed. He said competitions will be overseen in line with the latest ISSF rule updates for 2026, with a strong focus on athlete safety and precise application of technical regulations.

He added that events will be monitored from equipment inspection and verification of correct shooting positions through to time control and final rounds, all conducted under a progressive elimination system.

Shooting competition begins on Friday with the 10-metre air pistol events, featuring qualification rounds and finals on the same day. Action continues on Sunday with the 10-metre air rifle competitions, concluding with the finals and medal ceremonies.

Shooting is one of nine individual and team sports featured at AWST 2026, which brings together 65 teams from 16 Arab countries.
