Sharjah 24: On its second evening, the Ramadan Majlis turned its focus to a subject that resonates deeply in today’s climate: how to preserve our human balance in an age that rarely slows down.

Speaking on the second day of the 15th edition of the Ramadan Majlis 2026, organised by the Sharjah Press Club, part of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, at Aljada, Emirati writer and poet Awad bin Hasoum Al Darmaki reflected on the theme of the session, "The art of living calmly in a fast-moving world." He said the discussion sought to prompt a reassessment of personal priorities at a time when the pace of life continues to accelerate, often at the expense of meaningful relationships and life’s finer details.

The cost of chasing success

Al Darmaki noted that ambition and achievement are not the issue in themselves. He said the problem is not success itself but what is sacrificed along the way:

"Amid the busyness of everyday life, people often lose sight of why they are working so hard.” Busy days leave little time for simple but important moments — sharing time with family, speaking with children, or enjoying a quiet pause. He added that life is always moving too fast, and there is seldom ever time to stop and think.

True value lies in balance

He told Sharjah 24 that a person's genuine worth comes from their beliefs, morals, identity, and strong ties to family and community, not from making money. He noted that consciously balancing these elements offers peace of mind and protects against the empty urgency that comes from an ever-growing culture of consumption.
