The two awards the film won were “Best Integrated Production Work” and “Best Cinematography in Environmental Films”, both among the highest awards given by the festival, reflecting the advanced level the film has reached in artistic quality, visual narrative, and the cognitive presentation of sustainability issues.

Prestigious festival

WorldFest-Houston is one of the oldest and most prestigious independent international film festivals. Founded in 1961, it is considered the world's oldest independent film festival and the third-oldest competitive international film festival in North America, after the San Francisco and New York festivals. It attracts entries from over 60 countries annually, showcasing thousands of feature films and documentaries. The festival is also renowned for its role in discovering and supporting some of the world's most prominent filmmakers in their early careers, including Ang Lee and Steven Spielberg.

An integrated environmental vision from Sharjah to the world

This win comes as a culmination of the film’s journey in presenting an integrated visual and cognitive experience, documenting the environmental transformation led by Sharjah, and highlighting its pioneering model in waste management, the transition to clean energy, and the protection of biodiversity, within a sustainable urban vision that keeps pace with global environmental challenges.

Emirati production, international partnerships

Collaborating with the Sharjah Government Media Bureau and BEEAH, the film is produced by the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority and was carried out by Sharq Media Production and a Canadian company, Griffon.

Mohammed Hassan Khalaf took on the role of executive producer, while Ashraf Ali was the artistic producer of the work, and it was directed by the international director Peter von Puttkamer, known for his specialized documentary works and winner of more than 80 international awards.

Mohammed Khalaf: International awards reinforce producing meaningful content

Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority and Executive Producer of the work, stated that the production of this specialised documentary showcases Sharjah's development and reflects its vision for meaningful media content that addresses global issues. Winning international awards demonstrates a commitment to high-quality work that blends art with purposeful messages, believing that local and international partnerships expand opportunities for expertise exchange and help convey Sharjah’s pioneering experiences to a global audience in an impactful and sustainable way.

Documenting institutional cooperation and nature conservation

The film also highlights a collaboration between BEEAH and the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah, documenting and protecting wildlife and marine life, cleaning the seabed, and implementing afforestation projects, with broad community participation.
