The tournament features 16 youth teams from the club’s age-group categories and is being held on the auxiliary pitches at Khalid bin Mohammed Stadium in Al Hazana.
The opening ceremony was attended by Ibrahim Sembij, Chairman of Sharjah Football Club Company, along with board members, including Rashid Al Bass, Vice Chairman of the Company; Dr Ibrahim Khalil, Board Member and Chairman of the Organising Committee; and Reda Abbas, Board Member, as well as a large number of former players who had played alongside the late Ammar Al Dokhi. Members of his family and prominent sports figures from across the emirate were also present, in a gesture of loyalty and appreciation for his legacy.
The ceremony included a musical performance by Sharjah Police, followed by a speech from Ibrahim Sembij highlighting the late Al Dokhi’s contributions to sport and administrative work. His brother, Jassim Al Dokhi, delivered a speech on behalf of the family, expressing gratitude to the club’s board for the initiative and noting that such loyalty reflects the club’s longstanding appreciation of its dedicated members.
An exhibition match between former Sharjah players and the late player’s family team ended in a 1-1 draw. Meanwhile, the U13 (A) and U13 (B) teams opened their campaign with a goalless draw. Eight matches are scheduled for Thursday, with fixtures continuing next Wednesday.
The tournament’s opening saw strong attendance from parents, sports officials, and former players, reflecting the deep respect and affection for the late Ammar Al Dokhi and the spirit of loyalty within the sporting community.
