Sharjah24-AFP: Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey, warned Iran on Monday against what he described as “provocative steps”, hours after NATO air defences intercepted a missile launched by Tehran that was heading towards Turkish territory.

The incident marked the second such interception since the outbreak of the war in the Middle East, raising concerns over rising regional tensions.

Warning over escalating actions

Erdogan stated: “Despite our sincere warnings, extremely wrong and provocative steps that threaten Turkey’s friendship continue. Such actions should not be carried out.”

Call to avoid further mistakes

The Turkish president stated: “Persistence and stubbornness in making such mistakes must be avoided,” emphasising the need to prevent further escalation that could harm relations and regional stability.
