Sharjah24 - WAM: A powerful offshore earthquake measuring 7.4 struck eastern Indonesia on Wednesday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported, while a US monitoring centre warned of potentially hazardous tsunami waves within a 1,000-kilometre radius of the epicentre.
The USGS noted that the quake, which was initially recorded at a magnitude of 7.8, hit the Molucca Sea at 06:48 local time (22:48 GMT).
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii also issued an alert, cautioning that dangerous tsunami waves could impact coastal areas within 1,000 kilometres of the epicentre, including parts of Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia.
