A test of international credibility
Speaking at a high-level UN briefing in New York on cooperation between the United Nations and regional organisations, Al Budaiwi said the situation represents a real test of the international system’s credibility. He stressed that the GCC supports stability and peace but rejects any threat to its sovereignty or regional security.
Reports of ongoing attacks
Al Budaiwi stated that since 28 February 2026, GCC states have faced Iranian attacks involving ballistic missiles and armed drones targeting civilian and vital facilities, including airports, oil installations, desalination plants, ports and residential areas, resulting in casualties and significant damage.
Violation of international law
He strongly condemned the attacks as a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter, emphasising that targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure constitutes a serious breach of international humanitarian law.
Commitment to dialogue and diplomacy
He reaffirmed that the GCC remains committed to dialogue and diplomacy, highlighting its ongoing coordination with the United Nations and international partners to resolve crises and strengthen regional and global security.
