Sharjah 24: The Emirates Racing Authority (ERA) reported record-breaking participation in its recent online auction, held via the Tattersalls platform from 26 March to 1 April. A total of 221 bidders from around the world took part—a 154% increase compared with the average turnout at the Authority’s in-person auctions over the past five years.

Auction details and sales performance

The auction featured 196 horses, with 169 available for sale. A total of 132 horses were sold, with a 93% clearance rate on the second day, generating total revenues of AED 9,566,900.

Top-selling horses

The standout lot was Masai Moon, owned by Godolphin and trained by Charlie Appleby, sold for AED 1,100,000 to Zabeel Stables. The four-year-old horse has two wins in the UK and finished as runner-up in his last two appearances at Meydan Racecourse this season. Horses trained by Charlie Appleby also claimed four of the auction’s top-selling positions, including Indian Springs for AED 880,000 to Crown Barzani, and Pacifica Pierre and Alpine Trail to The Brothers Bloodstock for AED 780,000 and AED 620,000, respectively.

ERA highlights online auction success

Mohammed Al Shehi, Board Member and Director General of ERA, said the strong turnout reflects growing interest in horse racing across the UAE and the ease of using digital platforms. He added that online auctions facilitate the movement of horses between countries while ensuring the continuity of their competitive careers.
