Sharjah24-WAM: On Wednesday, the Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal – State Security Chamber sentenced Emirati national Saif Salem Saif Ali Al Muqbali to three years in prison and fined him AED5 million.

The court also ordered the deletion of the offensive video, the closure of his social media accounts and the confiscation of the mobile phone used to commit the offence.

Urgent referral to trial

The UAE Attorney General had previously ordered the defendant’s urgent referral to trial after investigations revealed that he had published a video inciting and promoting marriage to underage girls in Morocco, falsely claiming that Moroccan law permits such practices.

Charges of incitement and harming relations

Investigations confirmed that the defendant used rhetoric capable of inciting sedition, hatred and social discrimination, while also offending the brotherly relations between the Emirati and Moroccan peoples.

Authorities stated that the acts constituted a serious violation of UAE laws and of the country’s established societal values.
