Although US international Folarin Balogun scored his ninth goal in as many matches for AS Monaco (36), it proved little more than a consolation after the hosts had surged into a three-goal lead through Jonathan Ikoné (4, 21) and veteran Italian Ciro Immobile (8), before compatriot Luca Koleosho added a fourth (71).
Monaco remain on 49 points in fifth place, with Olympique de Marseille the main beneficiaries after a convincing 3–1 win over FC Metz, moving up to third on 52 points.
Lille OSC (50 points) have the chance to strengthen their position in the top four and claim third place when they visit Toulouse FC on Sunday.
Monaco are also under threat of losing their position to Olympique Lyonnais and Stade Rennais, who trail by one and two points respectively.
For their part, Paris FC have all but secured their place in the top flight next season, now sitting 12 points clear of the relegation zone after moving to 35 points in 12th place with five rounds remaining.
The match also saw former France international Paul Pogba come off the bench in the second half. The former Manchester United and Juventus star, however, witnessed Monaco’s first defeat after a run of ten league matches unbeaten, including seven consecutive wins.
Pogba, a 2018 FIFA World Cup winner with France, received a warm reception from the home supporters as he made just his fourth appearance for Monaco and his first since December.
