The UAE delegation highlighted the country’s continued commitment to the highest standards of nuclear safety, transparency and international cooperation, consistent with its obligations under the Convention on Nuclear Safety.
The report highlighted significant progress since the previous review cycle, including the full commercial operation of all four units at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, a key milestone in the UAE’s peaceful nuclear energy programme.
Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) enhanced its regulatory framework during the reporting period by updating requirements for physical protection and cybersecurity and by strengthening certification systems for nuclear personnel.
FANR also introduced new regulatory guides to support the safe transport of radioactive materials and advanced a regulatory masterplan for 2025–2029 to address emerging technologies.
Nawah Energy Company demonstrated continued improvements in operational performance, including safe maintenance and efficient refuelling at Barakah.
The company also reinforced safety culture, expanded workforce training programmes, and supported the growth of the national nuclear supply chain.
The UAE reaffirmed its alignment with IAEA safety standards and its commitment to implementing the Vienna Declaration on Nuclear Safety, while continuing to enhance emergency preparedness and innovation in the sector.
Christer Viktorsson said the report reflects the UAE’s sustained commitment to nuclear safety and to its role as a responsible contributor to the global nuclear safety framework.
