University of Sharjah Launches "CCI Week 2026"

Sharjah 24: The University of Sharjah (UOS) has launched the activities of "CCI Week 2026," organized by the College of Computing and Informatics in collaboration with the Colleges of Law, Sciences, Business Administration, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Research Institute of Medical and Health Sciences. Held virtually, the event featured a series of seminars, panel discussions, talks, presentations, and specialized lectures on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and e-commerce, delivered by a distinguished group of industry experts, faculty members, and postgraduate students.
Focus on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data analytics

In his opening remarks, His Excellency Prof. Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, pointed out that the event reflects the University’s strong commitment to promoting innovation, supporting research excellence, and advancing knowledge in key areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data analytics. He further noted that the event reflects the University’s direction toward building effective academic and industrial partnerships, reinforcing its position as a platform for knowledge exchange and for preparing cadres capable of contributing to the development of the knowledge.

The Chancellor added that the University is privileged to host several distinguished keynote speakers and industry experts to exchange valuable insights on emerging technologies and their transformative impact on education, research, and community engagement.

AI enhances collaborative work and influences various disciplines

Prof. Nouar Tabet, Acting Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, pointed out that artificial intelligence has become a central force that enhances collaborative work and influences various disciplines. He also highlighted the role of AI in accelerating scientific research and advancing the development of advanced materials.

Artificial intelligence technologies reshape industries and societies

Prof. Abbes Amira, Dean of the College of Computing and Informatics, stated that the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence technologies, including generative AI, large language models, and intelligent systems, are reshaping industries and societies while also transforming teaching and learning practices. He emphasised that these developments call for stronger collaboration between academia and industry. He added that such events provide valuable opportunities for the academic community to engage with the latest innovations, interact with leading researchers and industry experts, and reflect on how these advancements can enhance education and research.

Prof. Amira also highlighted the importance of exposing students to cutting-edge, real-world applications, noting that this plays a crucial role in equipping graduates with the skills needed to succeed in an evolving job market. He further praised partnerships with research and industry institutions, affirming that the event represents a valuable opportunity to generate new ideas and foster future collaborations.

Large language models reshape autonomous mobility

The event hosted several keynote speakers, including Prof. Fahad Khan, Deputy Department Chair and Professor of Computer Vision at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, who addressed the visual world in the generative AI era. Prof. Abderrahmane Lakas, Assistant Dean for Research at UAE University, discussed how large language models are reshaping autonomous mobility. Dr Grigorios Fragkos, Head of the Sharjah Cyber Security Center, spoke on future-ready cyber operations. Mr Hemant Julka, an industry leader, highlighted AI assurance as the key to scaling AI innovation.

The event also featured a panel discussion titled "Agentic AI in the Classroom: Reshaping How We Teach, Learn, and Assess," in addition to a series of talks addressing AI in precision medicine and therapeutics, digital transformation, the role of AI in shaping the future of education, building autonomous AI agents for smart cities, and AI-native joint communication and computation in future networks. It also included faculty presentations that discussed consumer choice in electronic contracts, dark traits in digital service encounters and online review credibility, as well as e-commerce in the Middle East, including its trends, challenges, and opportunities. It further featured postgraduate student presentations highlighting anomaly detection in radio spectrum monitoring using DL and SDR platforms, video deepfake detection and source attribution, and SmartQueue.

The event concluded with the announcement of the winners of the competitions organised on the sidelines of CCI Week.
