Ghobash hails UK support for UAE, condemnation of Iranian attacks

Sharjah 24 – WAM: Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), met with Fabian Hamilton, Member of the UK Parliament and Chair of the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), on the sidelines of the 152nd IPU Assembly in Türkiye.

Strengthening UAE–UK parliamentary ties

The meeting reviewed ways to enhance parliamentary relations between the UAE and the United Kingdom, highlighting the depth of longstanding ties and the importance of continued dialogue on issues of mutual interest.

Security of Strait of Hormuz stressed

Both sides underscored the importance of ensuring the security and smooth flow of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing its vital role in global energy markets and the world economy, and the need to safeguard maritime routes.

UK expresses solidarity with UAE

Hamilton affirmed the United Kingdom’s solidarity with the UAE in safeguarding its security, sovereignty and the safety of its citizens.

Ghobash praises UK stance on Iranian attacks

Ghobash praised the UK’s supportive position toward the UAE and GCC states and its condemnation of Iranian attacks, describing them as violations of international law and threats to regional stability.

UAE commitment to diplomacy and stability

He stressed that such aggression against civilians and infrastructure is a breach of sovereignty and international norms, reaffirming the UAE’s right to take necessary measures to protect its security, while noting the country’s continued focus on diplomatic solutions.

Call for broader regional agreement

Ghobash added that any agreement between the United States and Iran must address regional threats comprehensively to ensure lasting security and stability.

Strengthening parliamentary cooperation

Both sides highlighted the importance of enhancing parliamentary cooperation within the IPU framework, including coordination on global issues and support for peace and security initiatives, as well as boosting ties between the FNC and the UK House of Commons.
