Meeting at Inter-Parliamentary Union in Istanbul
The remarks were made during a meeting between an Arab Parliament delegation, headed by Al Yamahi, and a Spanish parliamentary delegation attending the Inter-Parliamentary Union meetings currently being held in Istanbul. The meeting was described as the first of its kind between the two sides.
Strong Arab-Spanish relations
Al Yamahi affirmed that relations between Spain and Arab countries are historic and based on mutual respect and longstanding friendship between the two peoples.
Strengthening parliamentary cooperation
He also expressed the Arab Parliament’s interest in enhancing cooperation with the Spanish Parliament, including both the Senate and the Congress of Deputies, through the signing of a memorandum of understanding and the exchange of official visits and expertise.
Spain reaffirms support for Palestinian rights
Spanish delegation head Javier Maroto reaffirmed Spain’s commitment to strengthening relations with the Arab Parliament, stressing that his country maintains a firm position in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
