Sharjah24: Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion and world number two, has announced his withdrawal from the French Open and the Rome Masters because of a right wrist injury.

Alcaraz confirmed that medical tests prompted the decision to skip both tournaments, emphasising the need for caution as he monitors his recovery.

He said the decision was made after careful evaluation, adding that he will decide when to return to competition based on the injury’s progress.

Setback after Barcelona Open

The Spanish star sustained the injury during the opening round of the Barcelona Open last week, when he defeated Finland’s Otto Virtanen before withdrawing from the tournament.

Focus on recovery

Alcaraz described the situation as challenging but expressed confidence in returning stronger after recovery, prioritising long-term fitness over immediate competition.
