Sharjah24: The Education, Culture, Media and Youth Affairs Committee at Sharjah Consultative Council visited the Sharjah Women’s Olympic Sports Centre as part of its work during the third ordinary session of the eleventh legislative term. The delegation was received by Hanan Mohammed Al Mahmoud, Vice Chairperson of Sharjah Women Sports, Mouza Mohammed Al Shamsi, Director of the Foundation, and Alyazia Al Suwaidi, Head of the Technical Preparation and Follow-up Section, in the presence of committee members. The committee was chaired by Sheikha Ali Al Naqbi, alongside members Yousif Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Dr Ahmed Saleh Al Naqbi, Sheikha Al Dhinin Al Naqbi, Mouza Muadad bin Huwaiden, and from the Council’s General Secretariat, Sumaya Al Hammoudi.


Programmes and initiatives overview


During the meeting, a comprehensive review was presented of the centre’s key programmes and initiatives aimed at developing women’s sports based on advanced scientific and training foundations. These efforts include nurturing talent and refining athletes’ abilities across various Olympic disciplines, strengthening the presence of Emirati women in sports locally and internationally.

 

Training strategies and community outreach


The committee also reviewed the centre’s training and technical plans, which focus on preparing qualified sports professionals and providing an integrated sporting environment that supports excellence. In addition, community programmes designed to promote a culture of sport among girls and encourage healthy, active lifestyles were highlighted.

 

Partnerships and talent development


The visit addressed the centre’s role in supporting sports through institutional partnerships, organising championships and sporting events, and launching initiatives to identify and develop emerging talentوفقthe latest standards, in alignment with the country’s vision of empowering women and enhancing their participation across sectors.

 

Enhancing institutional performance


Both sides discussed ways to further develop the centre’s institutional performance a
nd strengthen its role in preparing female athletes capable of competing at high levels. They also emphasised the importance of collaboration with educational and community institutions to promote women’s sports and expand participation.

 

Commitment to empowering women in sport


The committee stressed the importance of continued support for such specialised institutions that contribute to human development and reflect the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi,
Supreme CouncilMemberand Ruler of Sharjah, along with the guidance of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah WomenSports. Their vision focuses on investing in human potential, particularly among children, youth, and women. The committee commended the centre’s qualitative programmes that contribute to sporting achievements and enhance the country’s standing in this field.

At the conclusion of the visit, the committee expressed its appreciation for the centre’s efforts, reaffirming the Consultative Council’s commitment to supporting initiatives that advance women’s sports and strengthen their presence and impact in society.
