The bombing occurred just one month before the country’s presidential elections scheduled for May 31.
Governor Octavio Guzman described the incident as the region’s “most brutal and ruthless attack against civilians in decades,” noting that the explosion created a crater measuring 200 cubic meters.
Among the victims were 15 women and five men, all adults. Of the injured, three remain in intensive care, while five children who were also hurt are reported to be out of danger.
