UAE raises tally to 33 medals at Gulf Games in Doha

Sharjah24: The United Arab Emirates delegation competing in the 4th Gulf Games in Doha 2026 has raised its medal tally to 33, including 6 gold, 9 silver and 18 bronze, during the event held in Doha from 11 to 22 May.

The UAE delegation continued its strong performances after national billiards player Mahmoud Sherif won the gold medal in the individual 9-ball event, marking another achievement for UAE billiards at the Gulf Games.

Athletics team secures six medals

The UAE athletics team won six additional medals during the competitions. The men’s 4x100m relay team won silver with a time of 47.38 seconds, while the women’s relay team secured bronze with a time of 54.39 seconds. In pole vault, rising athlete Shahad Rashid Mubarak earned silver after setting a new UAE national record of 3.25 metres.

Meanwhile, Alyazia Tareq claimed bronze with a 2.80-metre jump.

Additional medals in athletics

Nasser Al Kathiri secured bronze in the javelin throw, while Obaid Al Nuaimi won bronze in the 10-kilometre race.

Equestrian and fencing successes

In equestrian competitions, rider Abdulla Humaid Al Muhairi won a gold medal for the UAE in the individual show jumping event.

The UAE fencing team concluded its participation with three team medals, including a gold in the women’s foil team event and silver medals in the women’s and men’s épée team events.

Shooting medals for UAE athletes

In shooting, Fatima Al Suwaidi won silver in the women’s rifle event. She later teamed up with Salem Al Yamahi to win bronze in the mixed 10m air rifle competition.

Praise for young Emirati talents

Mohammed Abdullah Al Mar, President of the UAE Athletics Federation, praised Shahad Rashid Mubarak, describing her as a promising future champion in pole vaulting.

He noted that her achievements at a young age reflect the significant progress seen in UAE athletics, particularly in women’s sport.
