Chelsea, searching for a new manager, has reached an agreement with Spaniard Xabi Alonso for a four-year contract, according to several British media outlets, including Sky Sports and the BBC.
The London club parted ways with Italian manager Enzo Maresca at the beginning of the season, and then with Englishman Liam Rosenior in April, relying on Callum McFarlane to take over on an interim basis in both instances.
The former Under-21 coach was tasked with leading Chelsea until the end of the season before handing over the reins.
Alonso, 44, has been without a club since being dismissed by Real Madrid in January, eight months after being appointed to manage the Spanish giants.
Chelsea are expected to officially announce the signing of the Spaniard until 2030 in the coming hours, according to reports.
