Sharjah24: An engaging dialogue session on the future of drama production at Sharjah Media City was attended by a notable assembly of drama professionals and experts.
The session focused on bolstering creative media and elevating the emirate's status as a global hub for artistic and cultural production, drawing attendance from representatives of "Shams," along with media professionals, talents, and enthusiasts.

The session concentrated on enhancing the future of the drama industry, tackling challenges presented by technological advancements, digital platforms, and streaming services, along with the changing demands of audiences.

Participants emphasized the importance of cultural identity in content creation and engaged in a discussion about successful regional drama productions.  Participants highlighted the essential role of scriptwriting in fostering the industry's growth, pointing out that a carefully constructed script is key for marketing and production.

Director and actor Habib  Habib Ghuloum emphasised the importance of increased support from both the government and private sectors for local drama productions in order to align with the country's evolving cultural, social, and technological landscape.  

He stressed that drama ought to do more than entertain; it should also cultivate societal awareness and mirror current issues. He emphasised that investing in young talent and emerging technologies, like artificial intelligence, is crucial to reaching a broader audience.

Actress Yara Sabri emphasised that the future of drama depends on crafting narratives that connect with audiences all while upholding exceptional scripts and performances. She also observed that adopting technological advancements and digital platforms offers chances to connect with a wider and more varied audience.

Screenwriter Mohammad Hassan Ahmed emphasised the importance of crafting scripts that resonate with contemporary themes and authentically portray real-life challenges with courage.  He highlighted the difficulties of reconciling tradition with innovation in drama.

Producer Mohammad Hussein contended that the future of drama depends on astute investment in talent and narratives that merit exploration. He stressed the importance of top-notch content and regional collaboration to uphold competitive standards, both domestically and globally.

The conversation also highlighted challenges including a shortage of innovative, in-depth scripts, insufficient funding for large-scale productions, and obstacles in finding and nurturing new talent. Despite these challenges, participants agreed that drama remains a powerful tool for cultural and social change, provided it shares bold and globally aware stories.

The session wrapped up with a plea for enhanced institutional and community backing, a more defined approach to script development, and the integration of contemporary technologies to advance the regional drama sector.

Furthermore, Mohammad Hassan Ahmed emphasized the significance of Sharjah Media City's role in uncovering new screenwriting talent via the "Hikayah (Story)" project, which has led to the creation of numerous successful series.
