This occurred during the presentation of the award shield to His Excellency Dr Issa Saleh Al Hammadi, Director of ALECGS in Sharjah, by His Excellency Professor Dr Abdullah Al-Washmi, Secretary-General of the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language, in the presence of His Excellency Matar Salem Al Dhaheri, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Al Dhaheri congratulated the Director of ALECGS in the UAE on winning the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language Award, praising the Centre's regional efforts in serving and developing Arabic language education. The award ceremony honouring the winners of the prize, across its various categories and branches, was held on Friday evening in the ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel in Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The ceremony began with the Saudi national anthem, followed by a recitation from the Holy Quran.
His Excellency Professor Dr Abdullah Al-Washmi then delivered a welcoming address to the distinguished guests and the individual and institutional winners, commending and congratulating them on their outstanding and unique efforts in serving the Arabic language. These efforts, he noted, were recognised amidst numerous regional and international competitions, with individuals and institutions vying for the prize in their respective categories and branches.
Earlier, the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language announced the winners of the fourth edition of the prize for 2025 at the end of October during a press conference organised by the Academy. It is worth mentioning that the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language Award is one of the most prestigious awards dedicated to celebrating outstanding contributions to the Arabic language and enhancing its standing. The Academy awarded ALECGS the prize for its participation in the Institutions category, specifically for Best Research in Arabic Language Teaching and Scientific Studies. This award recognises the Centre's outstanding contributions to serving the Arabic language, which have evolved into a comprehensive project for developing Arabic language teaching and learning. This project is guided by a strategic vision and systematic scientific practices, translated into high-quality initiatives. These initiatives include designing educational programmes, developing guides and methodological frameworks for enhancing Arabic language teaching and learning in various fields, such as: developing policies for evaluating language performance; developing standards for teaching Arabic; developing the content of Arabic language curricula in the areas of Arabism and the Arab dimension; developing standards for selecting, preparing, and training Arabic language teachers; developing Arabic language teaching strategies; and creating a reference framework for teaching Arabic to speakers of other languages: "Composition – Teaching – Training," as well as a framework for international and regional Arabic language tests.
The Centre has also contributed to developing educational policies and strategies for teaching Arabic in the Gulf States and building assessment tools and performance indicators to improve learning outcomes, targeting both teachers and educational administrations. Its scholarly output, including studies, reports, and training manuals, has become a reliable resource that has contributed to strengthening the presence of Arabic in educational plans. It is distinguished by its regional and international partnerships, its sustainable professional programmes, and its use of modern technologies in education, reflecting institutional maturity and sustained performance.
On this occasion, Dr Issa Saleh Al Hammadi commended the efforts of the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language and the prestige of this international award, which represents a culmination of the winners' outstanding efforts in serving the Arabic language and supporting their dedicated and distinguished work to elevate it within educational and cultural communities.
Al Hammadi also praised the Academy's global efforts to advance the Arabic language and enhance its international standing. He dedicated this well-deserved victory for ALECGS to the wise leadership of the Gulf states for their guidance and continuous support of the educational process, as embodied by the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) and its affiliated bodies, including ALECGS in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. He also dedicated this victory to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for his continuous support of the centre in allocating a separate building for it with all the equipment, which enabled the center to play its effective role in organising specialised programmes and studies in the field of the centre’s specialisation, leading to this crowning with the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language Award. Al Hammadi also dedicated this victory to the member states of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States, as they are united by one homeland, the Arabian Gulf, stressing that this victory is an incentive for the centre to strive to provide many programmes and studies that would achieve the centre’s goal in developing the teaching and learning of the Arabic language.
