The UAE continues to modernise its media sector to boost competitiveness and global appeal. Recent initiatives include the launch of the Advertiser Permit for individuals publishing promotional content on social media, fostering transparency, professionalism, and protection for creators and society.
The Cabinet also issued the Administrative Violations and Penalties Regulation for Media, providing a framework to promote responsible media practices aligned with national legislation.
The UAE Media Council issued 2,562 media licences and permits in the first half of 2025, covering digital media, filming, newspapers, and magazines. In publishing, over 514,000 book titles were handled, with 35,000 distribution permits issued and 32 titles blocked for conflicts with national values.
In cinema, 611 films were approved for screening, generating over AED 309 million from more than 6 million ticket sales. The Council also authorised distribution of 131 electronic games across the country.
With a flexible regulatory framework, advanced digital infrastructure, and strong support for high-quality content creation, the UAE has become a leading international media centre, serving as a model for innovative and responsible media governance.
