The approval was issued by Lord Whitehead on behalf of the UK Energy Secretary, allowing progress on the two planned offshore wind farms, DBS West and DBS East.
The projects are expected to have a combined installed capacity of 3 gigawatts, generating enough electricity to power approximately three million homes across the UK each year.
The wind farms will be located more than 100 kilometres off the northeast coast of the United Kingdom and are expected to create significant opportunities for businesses and local communities in Yorkshire, the Humber and across the country.
Earlier in January 2026, the projects secured Contracts for Difference under the UK Government’s Allocation Round 7 programme.
The Development Consent Order application was submitted in June 2024 and comprised more than 1,000 documents reviewed by the Planning Inspectorate, together with 10 online examination hearings.
Masdar and RWE will now proceed with detailed design work and procurement preparations ahead of a final investment decision expected in 2027.
The projects are being developed through a joint venture led by RWE, with a 51% stake, and Masdar holding 49%.
