Sharjah 24: Thiban Salem Al Muhairi, Head of the UAE National Team participating in the Asian Youth Paralympic Games in Dubai, expressed his pride in the opening ceremony, which reflected the Emirati heritage of generosity and the country’s keenness to host global events. He highlighted the participation of the national team with 50 athletes across eight sports, wishing them outstanding performances that would achieve their ambitions and raise the nation’s flag.

Grand opening ceremony marks start of competitions

The Asian Youth Paralympic Games officially began in Dubai with a spectacular opening ceremony under the patronage and presence of Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the National Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council. The event saw broad participation with over 1,500 athletes representing 35 countries.

Thiban Salem Al Muhairi expressed his pride in the ceremony, noting how it reflects Emirati generosity and the nation’s commitment to hosting international sporting events. He confirmed the UAE’s participation with 50 athletes across eight disciplines, wishing them success that would realise their goals and bring pride to the country.

Acknowledging key contributions

Al Muhairi commended the pivotal efforts of the Asian Paralympic Committee, whose cooperation and planning overcame challenges to ensure the success of this edition and showcase it at a level befitting Asian sports content.

He emphasised that this sporting event provides a vital platform to spotlight the talents and creativity of young athletes with disabilities across Asia.
