The “Our Winter: Sustainability and a Smile” campaign is one of the most prominent annual environmental initiatives launched by Al Hamriyah Municipality. It aims to promote environmental awareness and positive behaviour, fostering integration between government and private entities and the local community, and supporting the Emirate of Sharjah’s drive towards a more sustainable environment and a high quality of life.

This annual campaign is one of several initiatives implemented by the municipality during the winter season, in cooperation with Sharjah Police General Command (SPGC), the Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) of Sharjah, Al Hamriyah branch of the Department of Social Services, and Al Hamriyah Ladies Club. It aims to raise public awareness about the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of beaches, parks, and public areas, and to discourage negative behaviours such as barbecuing in undesignated areas, littering, and smoking in public spaces. The campaign also promotes a culture of recycling and the protection of wildlife in both marine and terrestrial environments.
The campaign includes a number of interactive activities and competitions for families and children, along with awareness presentations and workshops highlighting the importance of the optimal use of natural resources and the rational use of energy and water. This fosters environmentally responsible behaviour within the community and reflects the modern image of Al Hamriyah area, which has become a distinguished destination for visitors and tourists thanks to its high-quality facilities and comprehensive services.
In this context, His Excellency Mubarak Rashid Al Shamsi, Director of Al Hamriyah Municipality, affirmed that the campaign complements the municipality's efforts to achieve a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment for community members. He pointed out that Al Hamriyah Municipality operates according to an integrated approach aimed at instilling the concepts of sustainability and environmental responsibility in community behavior.
Al Shamsi added that Al Hamriyah Municipality staff implementing the campaign are committed to raising awareness among visitors to parks, beaches, and public facilities, emphasising the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of beaches and parks, and adhering to environmental regulations, in line with the UAE's Sustainable Development Goals and the Emirate of Sharjah's efforts to achieve a comprehensive environmental vision that meets the aspirations of the wise leadership in enhancing quality of life.
Al Shamsi revealed that Al Hamriya area is witnessing an increasing turnout of visitors and tourists during tourist seasons, due to the modern facilities and high-quality services it provides. He expressed that this makes the municipality responsibility double in raising awareness of sound environmental behavior and providing a clean and safe environment for all. He pointed out that the “Our Winter: Sustainability and a Smile” campaign came to embody the values of cooperation and community partnership in serving the environment, through the active participation of various institutions and supporting bodies.
