Desert Theatre Festival opens with “Al Barraq and Layla Al Afeefa”

Sharjah 24: Artist Ahmed Al Jasmi, General Supervisor of the play “Al Barraq and Layla Al Afeefa”, announced the launch of the 9th edition of the Sharjah Desert Theatre Festival.

The event took place in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.

The opening featured the theatrical performance “Al Barraq and Layla Al Afeefa”, authored by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, with participation from a select group of actors and artists from across the Arab world. The festival will continue until 17 December in the Al Kehaif area of Sharjah.

Advanced theatrical and cinematic techniques

Ahmed Al Jasmi, General Supervisor of the play “Al Barraq and Layla Al Afeefa”, stated that the opening performance of the festival was outstanding and showcased advanced theatrical and cinematic techniques.

Strong audience turnout

Al Jasmi told “Sharjah 24” that the theatrical performance attracted a large audience, with theatre lovers flocking to witness the outdoor performance in the heart of the desert.

Participation of Arab theatrical productions

The festival features six Arab theatrical productions from Egypt, the UAE, Qatar, Jordan, and Libya, all specially prepared for the festival audience.
