The individual categories include general volunteers, families, seniors, school students, university students, and people of determination, alongside distinguished figures who have made significant contributions at both national and global levels, selected by the Board of Trustees. This reflects the comprehensiveness of the award and its commitment to embracing all age and social groups.
The individual category is defined for persons aged 18 years and above who wish to participate through their individual voluntary efforts. Participants must submit a set of required documents, including: a recent personal photograph, a copy of their ID card and passport, a valid residence permit for non-citizens, a CV, a work ID card for employees, a certificate from the employer confirming the employee’s performance, and a copy of the volunteering membership card issued by governmental or private entities. A professional licence must be attached if the voluntary work is specialised, such as for doctors, nurses, and others.
This category allows participants to compete for several awards, including: Best organisation or individual supporting voluntary work, Best voluntary initiative, Volunteer hours record award, Best young leader of voluntary teams, Role model volunteer award, and Excellence in specialised volunteering award.
The family category includes families whose members have undertaken voluntary work collectively, with encouragement for children to participate voluntarily without compulsion. Required documents include a recent personal photograph of each participating family member, a copy of the family card or proof of kinship, copies of ID cards and passports, and a copy of the family’s volunteering membership card. Participants in this category can compete for the Best voluntary initiative award, Volunteer hours record award, and Role model volunteer award.
This category includes individuals aged 60 years and above. Required documents are a recent personal photograph, copies of ID and passport, a CV, and a volunteering membership card. Participants in this category can compete for the Authenticity Award for the best voluntary contributions.
This category targets individuals of determination aged 13 years and above. Required documents include a recent personal photograph, copies of ID and passport, a CV, a volunteering membership card, and a disability verification card issued by the Community Empowerment Authority. Participants in this category can compete for the Himma Award for the best voluntary contributions.
The award allows university and college students in the UAE, aged between 17 and 25 years, to participate under the university students category. Required documents include a recent personal photograph, copies of ID and passport, and a letter from the university confirming ongoing study. Participants can compete for the University Student Award for the highest voluntary contributions.
The school students category includes students aged 13 years and above. Required documents include a recent personal photograph, school letter, and other required documents. Participants can compete for the Knight/Lady of Volunteering Award for the highest voluntary contributions.
Suad Al Shamsi, Executive Director of the award, stated that these categories aim to reinforce the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work’s commitment to instilling a culture of volunteering, promoting values of giving and social responsibility, and highlighting inspiring role models from different segments of society, contributing to sustainable development and enhancing social cohesion.
The award confirmed its continued focus on the remaining eligible categories, inviting all interested parties to register and submit their files before the deadline. The community is urged to register before the closing date, as applications will be closed on 31 December 2025.
