EU urges restraint in Venezuela, supports peaceful transition

Sharjah 24 – WAM: The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, called on all parties in Venezuela to exercise restraint and avoid escalation amid ongoing tensions.

Coordination with international partners

Kallas said she held discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the EU Ambassador in Caracas to follow up on the situation in the country.

Support for peaceful transition

On the "X" platform, Kallas reiterated the EU’s position that Nicolás Maduro lacks legitimacy and emphasised the Union’s support for a peaceful transition of power.

Emphasis on international law and citizens

She stressed that all parties must respect international law and the UN Charter, and highlighted that ensuring the safety of EU citizens in Venezuela remains a top priority.
