Atalanta continue strong run under Palladino
The win marked Atalanta’s fourth straight victory over Roma and their sixth in the last seven meetings between the sides. It also came during the first return to Bergamo of Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who previously spent nine years in charge of Atalanta.
Atalanta climbed to eighth place with 25 points, continuing their impressive form under new coach Raffaele Palladino, who has now overseen seven wins in 10 matches across all competitions.
Scalvini goal decides tight contest
Scalvini scored the decisive goal in the 12th minute, with the strike confirmed after a VAR review for a possible handball. Atalanta thought they had doubled their lead when Gianluca Scamacca found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside following another VAR check.
Roma misses chance to close gap
Roma remained fifth on 33 points, missing the opportunity to temporarily move level with Inter in second place.
Juventus held as penalty miss proves costly
Elsewhere, Juventus missed the chance to temporarily take third place after being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Lecce. Zambian forward Lameck Banda gave the visitors the lead just before half-time, while Weston McKennie equalised early in the second half.
Juventus striker Jonathan David failed to convert a penalty awarded after a VAR review, with his tame effort easily saved. The result leaves Juventus fourth with 33 points, while Lecce sit 16th on 17 points.
