Sharjah 24 – AFP: AS Roma will be without Argentine star Paulo Dybala for around six weeks after he suffered a knee injury.

Surgery confirms knee damage

According to Italian media reports, including La Gazzetta dello Sport and Sky Sport, Dybala underwent surgery in Rome on Friday to repair a complete longitudinal tear of the lateral meniscus in his knee.

Injury discovered after training session

The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner had withdrawn from training on Thursday due to what the club initially described as muscle fatigue before medical examinations confirmed the injury.

Several matches to be missed

Dybala is expected to be sidelined for about 45 days, meaning he will miss seven Serie A matches as well as the Europa League round of 16 clash against Bologna FC.

Roma’s current league position

The 32-year-old has scored two goals in 17 Serie A appearances this season. Roma currently sit fourth in the league table, 16 points behind leaders Inter Milan and two points behind third-placed Napoli.

Roma are set to face Genoa CFC on Sunday in the 28th round of Serie A.
