After twice taking the lead, Dortmund looked set for defeat deep into stoppage time before a late strike secured a point. Frankfurt had overturned Dortmund’s lead and moved ahead in added time through substitute Mahmoud Dahoud, only for Carney Chukwuemeka—introduced in the 87th minute—to level in the 96th minute.
Dortmund opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Maximilian Beier, following a pass from Julian Ryerson. Frankfurt responded from the spot, as Can Uzun converted a penalty in the 22nd minute after a foul on Robin Koch. Felix Nmecha restored Dortmund’s lead in the 68th minute with a deflected effort, but Frankfurt struck back quickly through Younes Ben Taleb in the 71st minute, assisted by Arnaud Kalimuendo.
