Villarreal beat Alaves to claim third spot in La Liga

After a balanced first half, Villarreal took control of the match after the restart. Alberto Moleiro opened the scoring in the 49th minute, and substitute Gerard Moreno doubled the lead six minutes later. Georgian forward Georges Mikautadze added the third goal in the 75th minute, effectively sealing the result. Alaves managed a late consolation goal through Toni Martinez in the 85th minute.

Climbing the standings

The win lifted Villarreal to third place with 41 points, eight points behind league leaders Barcelona and four adrift of second-placed Real Madrid. The “Yellow Submarine” also have a postponed fixture against Levante, which gives them an opportunity to further strengthen their position.
