Griezmann sends Atletico Madrid into Copa del Rey quarter-finals

Sharjah24: Atletico Madrid booked their place in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals after edging past second-division side Deportivo La Coruna with a 1–0 away win.

French star Antoine Griezmann proved decisive once again, scoring the only goal of the match in the 61st minute. He converted a superb direct free-kick, curling the ball into the left corner beyond Deportivo goalkeeper German Parreño. The strike took his tally to 10 goals for the Rojiblancos in all competitions this season.

Atletico eye long-awaited cup success

Under Argentine coach Diego Simeone, Atletico are seeking to win the Copa del Rey for the first time since the 2012–2013 season, when they defeated city rivals Real Madrid in the final after extra time. The Madrid club has won the competition 10 times overall.

Strong record against Deportivo

The victory further underlined Atletico’s dominance in recent meetings with Deportivo, securing their 11th win in the last 14 encounters across all competitions, alongside three draws.
