Sharjah24 - AFP: A crane collapsed at a highway construction site in the suburbs of Bangkok on Thursday, killing two people, according to a local police chief. The incident occurred one day after another crane accident in Thailand resulted in the deaths of 32 people.

Collapse at Rama II expressway

The crane fell on Thursday morning at the under-construction Rama II Expressway in Samut Sakhon province, located outside Bangkok. Police official Sitthiporn Kasi told AFP from the scene that the incident resulted in “two dead and no injuries.”

Scene of the accident

Local media reported that the collapse occurred in front of the Paris Inn Garden Hotel. Video footage circulating online showed large clouds of dust and debris spread across the site after the massive crane crashed onto an elevated concrete structure.

A Road known for repeated Accidents

The Rama II Expressway is the site of several major infrastructure projects, including tollway construction. The road has witnessed multiple fatal incidents in recent years, leading to it being dubbed “Death Road.”

Second crane collapse in two days

Thursday’s incident came just one day after a similar crane collapse in Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeast of Bangkok.

High-speed rail tragedy

On Wednesday morning, a large launching gantry crane used in the construction of a Chinese-backed high-speed rail project collapsed onto a passenger train below, killing 32 people.
